Default Konigen Whilamina Haven (windy Haven !!)

Not very good photos as i took them a long time ago on an old cheap camera as we all used to have in those days !! but at least the memories never fade !! Her is the Tower Marie just on her first frieght for Sullys and still in her Tower livery she is alongside Queenford,of J.T.Palmers and sullys subro Victor ex everards formality i think !! those were the days soon as it was bad weather we all used to head for windy haven !! and procceed to the round table of the local cafe crew on one table skippers on another and the night began .also is the crossing we made on Queenford after the wind abaited.last photo is of the Queenford on Palmers yard at Denton for a refit alongside is the Glass island and behind is the subro Viking all laid up having Xmas holls and a paint up in the distance are the cranes on Denton Wharf they have all been recycled now !!!

Best regards Malc

Don't know where this name comes from, but should I perhaps read:
Koningin Wilhelmina Haven?
freely translated: Queen Wilhelmina Harbour
so has got nothing to do with "windy haven"......

There is such harbour with that name in Vlaardingen.

Hi Malc - Denton Wharf brings back memories, they used to load the 'SIF' ships of Knud I Larsen there for the Falkland Isles. What was the name of the pub over the back from Dentons ?
Jan - think Malc is using the 'nick name' of Windy Harbour used for sheltering in bad weather.
Cheers Gareth

Yes it was Koningin Wilhelmina Haven vlaardingen and we used to call it windy haven as when the wind blew all the small coasters used to go weatherbound in there and hold court in the local cafe !!!! till the wind dropped.

Best regards Malc
