Constructed by Svendborg Skibsvaerft & Maskinbyggeri in Svendborg 1962 for A.E. Soerensen of Svendborg, Yard no 100.
GRT 2232 DWT 3110 loa 89 m beam 13 m The vessel was chartered to the Australian Government from 1979 till 1984 and used for scientific purposes in the antarctics. In 1983 she was trapped in thick ice near Station Davis in the antarctics but was freed by the Russian icebreaker "Kapitan Myshevskiy" As far as I am aware this vessel has not got a reinforced steel bow for icetrading. In 1987 sold to Qujiang Sg Co in Yueqing with homeport Wenzhou (China) In 2012 renamed JIN LE 178 and apparently still trading as such in SEA. Attached photos are from unknown source, first one was supplied by Owners and other two pics show her arrival in Melbourne (January 1980). Funnel marking still ex A.E.Soerensen. Jan |

NANOK S blt Svendborg 1962 yard no 100
Hello there
I used to be a traineee with the Danish Owners A E sorensen back in the early 70'es and I have been visiting NANOK S many times when she was laid up in her homeport of Svendborg for the winter (she usually traded between Denmark and Greenland for the Royal Greenland Trade Dept) The latest info. I have been able to get is that she seems to have been convernted into a tankervessel and still trading in Chinese waters. Through Chinese biz. friends I tried to make contact with the managing owners but without success. best regards Henning |
