Sartori & Berger was established at Kiel back in the year 1858 by Geheimrat August Sartori.

Servicing shipping and shipowning has been the focus and platform for a prospecting development and continued success. Cargo and passenger liner services between Hamburg/Kiel and many Baltic ports were pioneered. In the fifties a Great Lakes liner service was developed followed by the operation of a fleet of modern dry cargo vessels in tramp-trade until the mid seventies. Nowadays the company emerged into a network structured service provider for shipping and transport.

In the late sixties ownership changed to Knud Knudsen when his son Volkert Knudsen became managing director. The latter now runs the family company in his capacity as majority shareholder and managing director.
