SUN TRADER at Miami
I took this photograph of the SUN TRADER on Miami River about 1982 - she was flying the Panamanian flag, but has proved untraceable. She has the looks of a London & Rochester type ship with added accommodation on the stern. Ken Garrett's Crescent Shipping book does not throw up any candidates, so it may be a ship that will be confined to the mystery section for ever.

After being sold to Mezeron and attaining the name of LAXEY RIVER she was sold on in 1986 to United Sea Export Coporation (Doric Marine Inc. managers) Miami and registered in Panama. Ken Garrett goes on to say that as LAXEY RIVER she was still listed by Lloyds 8/121/2009,but does not mention a change of name-which possibly came later? Cheers Rick. ps.both the JUBILATION & LAXEY RIVER photographs on C.R. |

Definitely not Jubilation, too many differences. This appears to be flush decked whereas Jubilation has raised fo'c'sle and poop.

Hi All - the ship ahead of the Silver Trader(Ricks post Colchester) appears similar to the Sun Trader, as much as can see of it anyway Gareth

Good Evening Lads - thanks for all responses.
The BASTION, BENCOL and GILLATION were all sold to the same people in Greece and I have seen pictures of the BENCOL and GILLATION in small Greek harbours, but not the BASTION. The more I look at the hull formation in the photo at Colchester; the more I like the idea that it is her. The height of the hatch coamings is greater in Miami, but I am certainly leaning towards her. Really appreciate the team effort! |
