Default ISABEL MITCHELL Imo 5146794

British coaster ISABEL MITCHELL in Tilbury Dock. Built 1956 by Berner Schiffswerft as HELGE - later FORELLE, RYSUM. Sailed off to a new life in the Caribbean after the failure of Mitchells.

Hi Gareth, yes H.R. Mitchell & Sons were based in the Woolwich Arsenal and had a busy company having HETTY, SUSAN, JOHN, VIOLET, MAY, PATRICIA and KATHERINE MITCHELL in their fleet. Whether their demise was linked to munition changes at Woolwich Arsenal, I think some ex crew members will be able to advise. As well as loading at Chapman Anchorage in the Thames, they also went to Great Oakley and Stangate Creek for their purpose.
