I may be proved wrong but I suspect it may be a case of crew going into an unventilated area and being overcome

Three workers who died on board a German cargo ship berthed at Goole docks have been named by police.

Gerd Jescheniak, 60, from Germany, Perrer Punongayan, 33, and Jonathan Sanosa, 38, both from the Philippines, died in hospital on Monday morning.

Humberside Police said the men "became ill" while aboard the Suntis, which was berthed at West Dock on Bridge Street.

The men are not believed to have suffered physical injuries but the exact cause of death is not yet known.

Humberside Police has now handed over the investigation to the Maritime Agency after concluding no criminal activity has taken place.

A force spokesman said: "The three men, along with two others, were on board the vessel which was transporting timber.

"No arrests have been made in connection with the incident."

A date for post-mortem examinations has yet to be set.
