Unidentified at port canaveral
I would appreciate any help in identifying the ship in this photograph, taken at Port Canaveral, Florida on 6th March 1986. Thank you.

Maurice - this is a poser as she appears to be one of ex-Wagenborg 550 deadweight tons class of coaster which ended up in the Caribbean as an extension of their trading lives after leaving Wagenborg. Unfortunately there were more than half a dozen and no clear candidate emerges from their trading histories at that time. Hope this helps, Leslie

Dear Leslie,
Thank you. This may therefore have to remain in the unidentified box, but I appreciate your helpful comments, MauriceJ. |

Maurice - I now think that the Port Canaveral coaster is the former Wagenborg coaster SCHELDEBORG which joined her sisterships in the Caribbean and was sunk as an artificial reef as the UNION EXPRESS. You will see from her distinctive funnel in my photograph that she has the similar broad white band as on your vessel. The UNION EXPRESS also is minus her aft mast as is the mystery ship (although the standard Caribbean deck crane has been fitted). At the time of your photograph, she was called EL MASARE. Leslie

Dear Leslie,
Thank you very much for investigating this further. I agree that this seems most likely and I really appreciate your kind assistance. Best wishes, MauriceJ. |
