Hi Kent, should be an interesting theme, found some drawings in the german shipping magazine "Die Seekiste"

These are from the editon 1950 January, page 29

Am sorry, text in german, mostly....

Title Sailors are laughing.....and can speak all languages.....

Translation for the first one:
Well, captain, salvage was successfull, but our ship was 9000 tons....

second one:
Am always wondering, the new one, with whom is he looking similar??
